Gaelscoil Riada is participating in An Taisce’s Green Schools Programme and is working on getting a second green flag for the school. The theme for the second green flag is Energy.

Below are some useful tips for parents on how to conserve energy.

A questionnaire about energy consumption has been distributed to each family today. We would be very grateful if you could complete the questionnaire and return to the class teacher before Friday 13th March.

Bealaí chun fuinneamh a chaomhnú

  • Múch trealamh leitreach nuair nach bhfuil siad in úsáid. Ná bíodh siad fágtha ar chóras chúltaca. Tá sé seo in ann suas le 20% fuinneamh a úsáid ar threalamh áirithe.
  • Ceannaigh trealamh leis an ráta A do do thigh. D’fhéadfá €150 a shábháil sa bhliain ar do bhille leictreachais.
  • Laghdaigh an teocht sa teach. Is féidir suas le €150 nó 10% a shábhail sa bhliain dá mbeadh laghdú de chéim Celsius teocht i do theach.
  • Ceannaigh bolgáin solais atá tíosach ar fhunnimh (CFLs) in ionad bolgáin traidisiúnta. Úsáideann siad 1/5 den méid fuinnmh agus maireann siad deich n-uaire níos faide. Íocann siad astu féin laistigh de bhliain, agus as sin amach tá tú ag sábhailt ar do bhille leictreachas.
  • Déan insliú ar an áiléar. Coiníonn sé an teas i do theach agus íocann sé as féin taobh istigh de dhá bhliain.
  • Faigh seaicéad fálaithe don umar uisce te. Coiníonn sé an uisce níos teo níos faide agus íocann sé as féin laistigh de chúpla mí.
  • Ná líon an citeal uisce muna bhfuil ag teastáil uait ach cupán.
  • Siúl nó úsáid do rothar chun taisteal ag an obair in ionad tiomáint. Tá buntáistí airgid agus sláinteachas i gceist leis seo.
  • Úsáid line éadaigh chomh minic agus is féidir. Úsáideann triomaitheoir éadaigh an t-uafás fuinnimh.
  • Ceannaigh táirgí áitiúla. Ní hamháin go bhfuil tú ag cuidiú le feirmeoirí áitiúla ach tá go leor fuinnimh á úsáid nuair atá bianna á iompar thart timpeall an domhain.

Tips for Energy Conservation

  • Turn off appliances when they are not in use. Do not leave them on standby. Standby can use up to 20% on some inefficient appliances.
  • Buy A rated appliances for your Home. This can be a huge saving of €150 annually on your electricity bill.
  • Turn down your heating – by even 1 degree Celsius and it will save you up to €150 per year of your money. A 10% percent saving.
  • Buy energy efficient light bulbs (CFLs) instead of traditional bulbs – they use 1/5th energy and last up to 10 times as long. They will pay for themselves in under a year and from then on they are saving you on your electricity bill
  • Attic Insulate – insulating your attic will keep the heat in your home for longer and pay for itself in 2-3 years.
  • Fit a lagging jacket – lagging your hot water tank will keep the water hotter for longer and will have paid for itself in a few months.
  • Don’t overfill your kettle – boil only as much water as you need.
  • Walk or cycle to work instead of driving – it costs nothing and it’s healthy for you.
  • Use the clothesline when possible – Tumble dryers use a lot of energy.
  • Buy Local Produce – A considerable amount of energy is consumed transporting produce around the globe, reduce this by sourcing food form a local farmers market and also help the local economy.

Ttips to help you reduce, reuse and recycle.

1. Don’t forget your reusable bag when shopping.

2. Plan your meals and make a shopping list. Remember to check what items you already have in before leaving the house.

3. Use serving bowls at mealtimes, this is a great way to reduce food waste all year round.

4. Use leftovers. There are some great free recipe booklets available here http://www.stopfoodwaste.ie/food-we-eat/recipes-downloads-links/

5. Only buy what you need. Don’t overstock on basics, such as bread and milk.

6. Buy loose vegetables, fruit, meat and cheese.

7. Use reusable plates, cups and bags rather than throw away items.

8. Remember most waste, including glass, cans, paper, packaging, plastic, clothes, cardboard, electrical goods, metal and batteries can be recycled.

9. Please put all your food waste in your brown bin or compost it.

-Pleain
-Monatóireacht a dhéanamh
-Obair Curaclam
-Eolas a thabhairt don phobal
-Cód

We as a committee promote teachers, children and parents to Reduce, Re-use and Recycle. Iarrfaimid ar gach duine chun bheith ag laghdú an bruscair atá acu, é a ath-usáid agus chuid a eile a ath-chursáil.

Measures have been taken within Gaelscoil Riada to ensure rubbish is divided into waste, recyclable materials and reusable materials. Already a decrease in our waste bin has been noted and we monitor our progress on a regular basis.
Roinneann na páistí agus na múinteoirí an bruscair i trí boscaí, bruscar, rudaí le n-athúsáid agus athchursáil. Tá níos lú bruscair le feiceáil gach seachtain!!!

Curriculum work includes/Obair Curaclam:

  • Orby worksheets/ Lch Orby mar Obair bhaile
  • Planting of flowers, trees, peas/ag cur síoltaí agus crainn
